Yesterday I made some delicious granola bars but discovered that our oven doesn’t work. Instead, I took the pan of sugary batter to a friend’s apartment and used his oven. They were delicious, and I ended up sharing most of them with my friend, my roommate, the chaplain next door (who offered me the use of their oven when he saw me carrying the pan across the yard), my CL, and myself. And then I found out our oven works fine; you just have to turn two dials instead of one.

A to-scale model of the sun, earth and moonThis week has been one of little sleep for me, but I’m finally in a position to catch up. Last night, in addition to studying, I created a neat image that shows the scale of the sun, earth and moon and the distances between them. I considered making another image relating the size of the sun to that of the Milky Way until I did some calculations (which I quadruple-checked) and found that, if the sun were just one hundredth of a millimeter wide on a map, the Milky Way would stretch from New York to San Francisco. “Wow” doesn’t come close.

My semi-regular blogging schedule was blown slightly off course this last week with midterms, and since Friday classes were off thanks to “fall break”, I drove home and happily spent the weekend with my family. Speaking of driving home, I’m quite excited to have been given a car, a ‘91 Toyota Corolla, which runs and rides very well and, best of all, is temporarily uncluttered by my crap.
