I know where I’m going

In the last couple of weeks it’s become more clear that, of the handful of colleges who have my applications, Baylor University will be offering me the most scholarship money, by far. It’s going to be affordable enough for my family, so that’s where I’m going, and I doubt I could be any more thrilled.

One reason for my enthusiasm, aside from the simple fact that I’ll be spending three years (for a B.S.C.S.) at a university of Baylor’s caliber, is that I have family in Waco who I’ll be able to see frequently. I’ll watch and help my older cousin’s 15 month old girl grow to the age of four. And I’ll be staying with my younger cousin for at least the first semester, or until we get sick of each other. ;)

I know my present excitement will wane temporarily each time studies, work, and sleep vie for my time, but I’m already cherishing my next three years.

Lines

Written February 18, 2006.

I think our lives must be two lines upon a canvas,
Tracing their ways through and beside each other,
Sometimes bending, shaking, or thinning away
almost to nothing before they grow again.

I wonder if our lines will ever separate for good,
Or bad, I guess, if they do not turn back around
  to complement and glow.

I wonder, too, if we are drawing something beautiful,
Something we cannot see until a little more is through.
I hope it’s pure, alive, and free — I know your part would be.

I dream that wherever we go
We will, some unexpected day,
Be pulled together over spaces white,
And hold our breath as we draw near,
And meet,
And end,
As one.
